Blue Island Projects & Design — Barbados residence exterior

Barbados · Caribbean

Architecture rooted
in the island.

We design for climate before aesthetics—deep shade, natural cross-ventilation, and roofs carefully pitched for hurricane season. The result is architecture that feels resilient, comfortable, and truly at home in its setting.

Form follows function.

Architect, 1856–1924

The studio

Every design is personal.

We approach each project as if it were our own.

South View, The Nest, The Vaughans, and Springviller—each conceived in this office and realised in Barbados. None rely on mechanical cooling to remain comfortable at peak afternoon heat. Form follows function here: precise orientation, calibrated roof overhangs for solar control, and deliberate pathways for cross-ventilation are established early, shaping both comfort and architecture.

We develop every project in-house, from initial site analysis and conceptual sketches through to fully coordinated construction documents used for tendering. Environmental demands—salt-laden air, driving rain, and design wind loads—are integrated into the detailing from the outset, rather than treated as secondary considerations.

Services

Design, drawings and visuals under one roof

Take us on for a whole house or for one drawing set. The documentation is held to the same standard either way.

01

Architectural design

We start on the ground: where the trade wind arrives, where the four-o'clock sun lands, where the water runs after a downpour. The plan follows from that.

02

2D & 3D drawings

Planning sets for Town & Country, and construction and MEP drawings detailed enough that nobody on the property has to guess.

03

3D rendering & animation

Real light, real materials, right scale. Walk your veranda at 6pm before a single block is laid.

04

Ready-to-build house plans

Finished designs sized for island lots, drawn for heat and hurricane season, ready to buy and build.

Process

How a Blue Island house comes together

  1. 01

    Listen

A walk over the property, then a long conversation about how your family really uses a house on a Sunday.

  2. 02

    Shape

Massing, orientation and shade tested against the sun's path and the prevailing breeze.

  3. 03

    Draw

The full set: coordinated, approval-ready, and priceable by any contractor on the island.

  4. 04

    Build

We stay on the property so the drawings keep their intent once block starts going up.
