Coral Stone and the Original Air Conditioning: What Barbados' Great Houses Still Teach Us About Keeping Cool
Before air conditioning, Barbados had another way of dealing with heat: make the building work with the climate. Coral stone was one component — the real cooling system was thermal mass, shade, verandas, shutters, ventilation, roof form and orientation working together.
